We were recently approached by a local business to find a solution for securing bikes in a Derbyshire bike shelter.

The company purchased a shelter and after installation needed to find a way to secure the sliding door arrangement as there had been a spate of both attempted and actual theft of bikes in Derby from their shelter and that of a neighbouring company’s shelter.

The challenge was to have a keyless code lock that could retain and secure a sliding movement and allow multiple users access to the shelter. This was also important to reduce the need to issue, record and at times recover keys. The lock therefore also needed to be easily programmable, allowing for quick code deletion and ability to enter new codes.

The application was made more difficult by the fact that neither of the sliding doors closed directly against a section of the structure and therefore meant some steel fabrication would be required to provide an area for the lock to captivate the doors and secure the shelter.

After taking various dimensions from site we sourced an Adams Rite lock case that would not only fit neatly inside an identical section of box steel but also used a “hook” bolt to grab and resist the sliding movement of the doors.

After doing some research we then found a product that was being used in parts of Europe (and is now being sold in the UK through the ABUS brand) that could be built as a special and dedicated product to pass through the required amount of steel work, through the Adams Rite hook lock case and had a wealth of programming versatility.

After sampling the product and drawing up plans to achieve this, we set about the final specification and proposed fabrication including finding an engineering company to neatly mill out the box section steel, obtain a paint finish to match the existing framework and work out code programming requirements for the lock.

Incorporating the Adams Rite lock case and the ABUS Codeloxx cylinder, Key Door Solutions were able to find the solution to secure the Derbyshire bike shelter.

We are pleased to say that the installation went well and the client now has a secure bike shelter. In fact the only negative feedback came from the neighbouring company, as they felt their insecure shelter would now be the prime target! Whilst their shelter is a different construction, we have obviously been enthusiastic to make it known that Key Door Solutions would be more than happy to find the right solution for them as well.
