Reverse engineering a key for an obsolete lock with “All keys Lost”

We were recently approached by a homeowner that had moved into a property where the front door was fitted with a Yale Keyfree door handle. This product provides a keypad for locking and unlocking the door, to save carrying keys, however in the event of any kind of failure there is a key override lock discreetly positioned.

On the sale of the property, there were no keys provided for the lock and this held two potential problems. Firstly the new occupier had no way of using the lock if a fault occurred with the keypad and secondly, there was potentially a key(s) around that someone unauthorised could use to access the newly owned property.

The home owner contacted the manufacturer to be told that the locks were now obsolete and any old stock had been sold and told they might be lucky enough to find a locksmith who could help.

After trying a few other locksmiths the homeowner then came to us and once we received the enquiry we confirmed that we could open the lock non destructively, strip it down to component form and rebuild it with the existing components to a different key configuration, therefore reverse engineering the lock and providing a solution.

Our dedication to offering solutions for jobs such as this came to the great relief of the customer and gave them reassurance for their safety and security.

If you have a similar problem, why not get in touch to see if we can also help find a solution for your dilemma.
